PARKS AND RECREATION

Another great Chippewa Lake summer is ahead! Boat docks are going in and yards are being cleaned up. Soon the beach sand will be delivered and people will begin enjoying the water. I know that I am looking forward to sitting on the pontoon reading a good book or enjoying the company of friends around the fire pit. When I visit other neighborhoods, I cannot help but feel grateful for all we have here. It is certainly a unique community.
Toward the end of last summer we purchased shuffleboard equipment that can be used by our residents. It is stored in the beach shed and has to be signed out by a beach attendant. We hope it will be enjoyed this summer. What a good way to spend an evening with the family without having to put gas in the car!
The ski team has scheduled the community porta-potty to be delivered May 15th and they will be doing their annual beach clean up on May 17th. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we can get the beach ready for opening on Memorial Day weekend.
We are trying something new this year.
In our efforts to keep our limited parking spaces for the residents of our
village, we are distributing numbered plastic mirror hangers to our residents
to display in their vehicle when parking in a “resident only” parking space.
Parking at the beach will still require a beach pass. One hanger per residence
will be distributed. The number of the hanger and the residence will be
recorded. This will help our patrolmen identify residents easily and prevent a
resident from getting a parking ticket.

The boat ramp committee has appointed Hank Waite and Kelly Olexa to replace Lori Smitley and Brent Osborn. We thank both Lori and Brent for their past service and welcome Hank and Kelly to the committee. Kelly has graciously agreed to sell beach passes, boat stickers and distribute resident mirror hangers. It is not necessary to purchase new boat stickers or gate keys this year unless you are adding a boat. Kelly will be at the beach on May 17th to sell beach passes and distribute our new resident hangers. If the weather turns bad, she will be at the town hall.
We will be making some improvement on the
median island on Briarwood Blvd. Residents Pam and Bob Williams have offered
to create a new landscape design for the area and begin work on a fresh new
look. I’m sure they wouldn’t turn down offers from those who have good shovel
skills! I can’t wait to see the end product!
Spring Recycling Collection Day
Central Processing Facility
8700 Lake Road
Saturday, May 17th 8:00a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Accepting paint, oil, antifreeze,
phone books, electronic equipment, and batteries. Also accepting tires at reduced rates. Appliances may be dropped off for a low fee.
Yard waste can be taken to the CPF everyday. Keep it separate from other garbage.
Bulk Mulch may be purchased for $65.00 per ton. Produced from the grinding of wooden pallets, which helps us divert these pallets from disposal in landfills. The mulch must be self-loaded (shoveled) into your own container or pick-up truck. Colors available are black, brown and red. This mulch can be used in flower and shrub beds or in vegetable gardens to conserve moisture, lower soil temperature, reduce erosion and soil compaction, discourage the establishment of weeds, and for aesthetic purposes.
Perfect for the Village Beauty Contest!
CHIPPEWA LAKE WATER SKI TEAM
Submitted by Council Member Deb Bican
Happy summer from the ski team! We are gearing up for a new season and are excited about this year’s show. As usual, we have been busy all winter making skis, costumes, developing a script, and choosing music. We have also been practicing many of our acts on dry land at Akron Health and Wellness. If you weren’t aware, many of our water ski acts are taught on dry land. Learning how to climb (and come down) from pyramids, doing conventional and adagio doubles are all learned on a gym mat or on the beach.
Our 2nd annual silent auction was a huge success despite having the worst blizzard of the year. As fundraising chair, I became increasingly concerned as the weather forecast went from pretty good at the beginning of the week to pretty awful at the end. However, our event was held on Friday night and our guests were able to still navigate the roads. Saturday night would have been a total wash as the weather continued to get worse throughout the weekend. We are very grateful to our faithful sponsors!
One of the first events of the summer
will be our annual Learn to Ski on June 22nd. This is a community
event. During the day we will give people an opportunity to learn to water
ski. Young and old alike are invited to join us in the water. The event is
free of charge and we even provide lunch. If you know of someone who might be
interested, have them visit our website at chippewaskiteam.com. Our website
contains information about Learn to Ski as well as membership and show schedule
for the summer.
Have a safe and fun summer!
